  From March 10, 2017 Joe Maloy Racing News   Hey everyone,   I’ve got to be honest, I thought it’d be a few years before I typed my first retirement letter. Things rarely go the way we predict. When I last wrote, I thought I could continue racing in 2017 while beginning to explore post-triathlon plans. I was wrong. Moving forward as a professional triathlete with an investment of time, energy, and focus that represents anything less than everything is not an option. My heart knew this after the Olympics; my head was a few months behind. Before returning to the end, lets go to the beginning. Pursuing full time triathlon represented an opportunity to excel and to inspire. I’ve changed over the past 7 years, but my mission has remained. Olympian Joe Maloy had a banner summer winning Escape from Alcatraz in June then competing in July as the team anchor with Gwen Jorgensen, Ben Kanute, and Kirsten Kasper in Hamburg, Germany to earn the World Championship in Mixed Relay – a first for the United States. In August, Maloy competed as the top American qualifier and finisher (23rd) at the Rio Olympic Games. One month later, he was second at the Beijing International Triathlon. Lauren Goss, Joe Maloy, and Timothy O’Donnell received invitations and competed in the second annual Island House Invitational Triathlon – a three-day race featuring a $500,000 prize purse. O’Donnell was 14th after day two, while Goss and Maloy finished in the top-10 and advanced to the third and final day, each finishing 8th overall in their division. Summer Cook Wins ITU Tongyeong World Cup; Rudy von Berg 2nd at IRONMAN 70.3 Miami

October 25th, 2016 (from http://www.endurancesportswire.com/summer-cook-wins-itu-tongyeong-world-cup-rudy-von-berg-2nd-at-ironman-70-3-miami/) Cook won the Tongyeong World Cup in Korea on October 22, posting the fastest swim and run splits of the day. In September, Cook won her first WTS event in Edmonton with the fastest run of the event. Cook backed her Edmonton performance up with a second place finish in the Salinas World Cup with the second fastest run split. So far, she has won 4 races in 2016, with one race remaining on her calendar. Of her most recent victory Cook remarked, “I’m thrilled to take my third ITU win of the season. I’ve taken many steps forward as an athlete this season and it’s been wonderful to see those steps reflected in my results.
