Pensacola, FL – November 18, 2015 – MULTISPORT PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE (MPI), launched in 2010 as a Florida-based multisport coaching company, has grown to a team of accredited, knowledgeable, and experienced coaches based in locations throughout the US including California, Florida, Idaho, Mississippi, and Texas.
The coaching staff, led by head coaches Mark Sortino and John Murray, has trained athletes to a combined 350 race finishes just this year – from 5Ks to the Boston Marathon; from supersprint triathlons to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, and to Paratriathlon and Paracycling National and World Championships. Among the coached athletes are Krige Schabort, winner of the 2015 ESPY as “Best Male Athlete with a Disability”, and Aaron Scheidies, ITU World Champion paratriathlete and now top-ranked US paracyclist. Coach Mark Sortino has been the Head Coach of Team USA Paratriathlon since 2012.
Team MPI has hosted and led numerous camps including iron distance race-venue preparation camps (IM Florida, Texas, Chattanooga) and camps associated with Team Semper Fi, Challenged Athletes Foundation, USA Paratriathlon, Team RWB and Team USA Paratriathlon. 2016 clinics will be held in Pensacola, Florida, Boise, Idaho and multiple cities in Texas.
In 2016 Team MPI will produce its sixth year of the Portofino Tri Series in Pensacola Beach, Florida. Triathlon Business International named these super-sprint races, offered monthly from April through September, as a finalist for “Best Beginner Race” in 2014.
In recognition of Team MPIs continuous evolution and improvement comes an updated Team MPI kit and website (TeamMPI.com). The weekly online “Coach’s Corner” and newsletter offer valuable coaching tips and team updates.
Located throughout the US, the staff brings a wide range of credentials in coaching as well as race directing and officiating. Coaching staff qualifications include USA Triathlon Level I & II, USA Cycling Level I & II, ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) Level II, US Masters Swimming Level I & II, and Ironman Certified Coach along with F.I.S.T. certified bike fitting and Sports Psychology Consulting (provisional). Among the coaches are certified race directors, USAT Cat 3 Officials, ITU Level 1 Official, and a USAT Elite Rules Official. Collectively the coaches have extensive personal racing experience and success up through IRONMAN and World Championships. Detailed information on coaches is available at TeamMPI.com.
Mark Sortino, CEO and co-founder of Team MPI, says, “we’re excited about the energy, professional knowledge and experience our coaches have to offer athletes and look forward to the future.” Sortino, who recently relocated to Boise, Idaho, will soon announce new clinics in that location.
“Our mission at Team MPI is to foster the inclusion of sport in daily life in a balanced and enriching way,” says President and co-founder John Murray. “When leading a clinic or camp or coaching one-on-one, we strive to help athletes enjoy sport and find deeper levels of satisfaction, whether that means finishing one’s first 5K or seeking a world championship podium.”
