DELRAY BEACH, FL – June 23, 2015 – Rudy Von Berg and Lauren Goss emerged victorious at the Challenge San Gil triathlon in Queretaro, Mexico on June 21, 2015. Von Berg set a bike course record of 2:14:49 on his way to an overall course record of 4:02:35, finishing over 6 minutes ahead of second place Mauricio Mendez. Goss also set a course record, winning in a time of 4:37:29, nearly 3 minutes ahead of Cecilia Perez Flores. This was the 17th year for this race.
Goss, who was second at Escape from Alcatraz two weeks prior, and the winner at IRONMAN 70.3 St. Croix in May, said, “It’s so rewarding to put together a race performance that reflects the work done and the results seen in training. It felt great to be on top of that podium.” Among the women’s field, Goss turned in the fastest swim, bike, and run times of the day. Her next races include IRONMAN 70.3 Racine on July 19 and IRONMAN 70.3 Ecuador on August 9.
After the first half of the season spent on short course racing, Von Berg, the 2014 and 2015 USAT Collegiate National Champion showed he had the strength and fitness to win at the 70.3 distance. Looking ahead, Von Berg said, “This win is the perfect mid-season motivation accelerant to propel my training and racing forward toward the ITU U23 World Championships in Chicago and beyond.” Next up for Von Berg are the Panasonic NYC Triathlon on July 19 and Magog Continental Cup on July 26.
