TriHabitat News Release:
TriHabitat to be First and Only Self-Contained Endurance Sports Venue in the World
Facility to be built on the banks of the Northeast Cape Fear River near Wilmington, North Carolina.
Wilmington, N.C. – October 27, 2014 – TriHabitat, LLC has formally announced plans to construct the world’s first and only totally self-contained endurance sports venue. TriHabitat will be built on 1,100 acres along the banks of the Northeast Cape Fear River near Wilmington, NC and will feature specifically designed and constructed, world-class triathlon training and racing facilities.
TriHabitat has partnered with Alchemy Global to assist the company with the capital raise and to provide ongoing advisory services to help implement the growth plan. TriHabitat and Alchemy have engaged and consulted industry veterans to assist with the project, including Chuck Baker, a Partner with DLA Piper and former board member of USA Triathlon, who has been tapped for legal work and consultation.
“After producing well over a thousand triathlons and other events over the years, I developed the vision to create a facility where athletes can train and race on a closed course with optimal spectator viewing areas and amenities,” said Bill Scott, TriHabitat CEO. “With the booming population of endurance sport athletes, the weather and the hospitality, the Wilmington, North Carolina area, specifically Pender County, provides the perfect location for this facility.”
TriHabitat will contain a specially designed 25 acre spring-fed lake for swimming, a 14 mile paved bike loop, a 6.5 mile paved run loop, and a state-of-the-art permanent transition area featuring individual stations. The venue will include five stadiums, constructed from natural earth mounding, providing spectators with the ultimate viewing experience. Permanent lifeguard stations, a centralized bike course pit area, and permanent run course aid stations elevate the race experience. A vendor and expo village provides tent space and power hookups for event sponsors and merchants and a large covered pavilion is an ideal post-race gathering place.
Lodging options at TriHabitat will include a 20 room lodge and conference center, a collection of rustic cabins, and a 50 site motorhome park with full hook-ups.
TriHabitat will host a multitude of endurance events, including triathlons of various distances during a typical calendar year. The facility will also be open daily on a year-round basis for training, camps, clinics and other activities. In addition to triathlons, TriHabitat also expects to produce a variety of other events such as kayak races, open water swims, bike time trials, and obstacle course races.
“TriHabitat is a first-of-its-kind facility that is entering the marketplace at exactly the right time,” said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. “As the National Governing Body, USA Triathlon is extremely supportive of this concept coming to fruition. It’s a vision that would greatly enhance training and racing within the sport.”
TriHabitat will be located just off N.C. 210, approximately four miles east of its intersection with Interstate 40. TriHabitat anticipates being open for business in 2016.
“I could not be more excited to help Bill realize this vision and assist in taking the endurance sports industry to a new level,” said Bouker Pool, TriHabitat COO. “The growth of participation in endurance sports has been steady over the past few years, and the impact to communities has been felt with more events coming online, closing streets and putting a lot of effort into creating a safe and fun atmosphere for participants and spectators. TriHabitat will be the first venue of its kind where athletes and spectators can be car free and focused on the action.”
